RMC at a Glance

                   Gunupur, a town situated on the banks of river Vansadhara, is the Headquarters of the Sub Division in Rayagada District of Southern Orissa. The Area is endowed with very fertile soil of Vansadhara Valley. The area of sub division also corresponds to jurisdiction of Regulated Market Committee (RMC). It was established in the year 1961 to regulate trade and marketing of agricultural goods, has became the Pioneer in the state in creating exemplary facilities for marketing of Agricultural produce. Moreover, it has taken sincere initiatives for the promotion of farmers through latest agricultural samplings. 

                 Over the years, mainly Paddy, Ragi, Pineapple, Jackfruit, Tamarind, Turmeric, Hill Gram and pulses have been grown in this area. But, recently large tracts of lands have come under cotton cultivation. This trend is visible in most of the blocks* of this Sub-division. 

                 Cotton cultivation was taken up in this area for the first time during 1996-97 when 3,750 Acres was brought under it. Over the years, it has increased to the present coverage of around 25,000 hectors.

 

               The mercurial rise so seen because of the fact that not only high average productivity but also seed cotton produced here is of very high quality. The high quality is reflected in High Average Staple Length of the Cotton (30 MM to 33 MM), High Ginning Percentage, Low Micronaire, Low Moisture Quantity, High Staple Strength and Low Trash. Because of this, not only Ginning Mills of near by area like Rayagada are procuring the seed cotton but also traders from places like Kesinga, Aska, Baragarh, Bolangir, Gunturu (AP), Kolkota (WB), Delhi visits this area for purchasing cotton. Entrepreneurs have also started two Ginning Mills in this area namely Chandana Agrotech Pvt. Limited, Eduluvalasa & Ram Gopal AgroTech (P) Ltd. Kujendri with 64 Gins and 24 Gins respectively. 

SERVICE PROVIDING

Basically RMC is a service provider. The main function of the R.M.C. is to provide necessary infrastructural support for marketing of agricultural produce of the local farmers.  Our role is to provide a platform for direct interface between producers and consumers, so as to eliminate the intermediaries in the process.             The RMC has it’s headquarters at Gunupur. Thus, RMC has developed a full-fledged Cotton Market Yard at Gunupur with the assistance of Technology Mission on Cotton, Ministry of Textile, Government of India.Full marketing facilities for Paddy, Cotton & Other Crops are available in Main Market Yard..
